Consultation on the proposed expansion of President Kennedy School
Consultation period: Tuesday 15 September to Monday 12 October 2026
Introduction
The Futures Trust is consulting on a proposal to expand the physical capacity of President Kennedy School to support the planned increase in pupil numbers to ensure the school can continue to provide high-quality education for its community.
Coventry City Council has identified a need for additional secondary school places in the local area. To help meet that need, the Council has proposed increasing the school’s Published Admission Number from 300 to 330 pupils in each year group starting with year 7 and rolling up from September 2027.
The school has previously consulted separately on the change to its admission arrangements. This consultation relates specifically to the proposed physical expansion of the school and the additional accommodation required to support the increased number of pupils.
What is proposed?
The proposal is to increase the physical capacity of President Kennedy School through the construction of additional accommodation.

The project is being developed and funded by Coventry City Council in partnership with President Kennedy School and The Futures Trust.
The project is at an early stage, and detailed design work is still being developed. This consultation is seeking views on the principle of the proposed physical expansion and the additional accommodation required.

When would the change take effect?
The increase in the school’s Published Admission Number from 300 to 330 is planned to begin from September 2027.
The permanent building project is currently expected to be completed by Easter 2028. Temporary accommodation may therefore be required while the permanent accommodation is being completed. If temporary accommodation is needed, the school and Trust will work with Coventry City Council to minimise disruption and maintain safe, suitable learning spaces for pupils.
The construction programme remains subject to the completion of design work, planning and other necessary approvals.

What happens next?
At the end of the consultation period, The Futures Trust will review all responses. The consultation responses will be considered before the Trust submits the significant change application to the Department for Education. Feedback received through this consultation will help inform the final proposal and any supporting information submitted as part of the application.
