School-Centred Initial Teacher Training

Futures Teaching Alliance recruits Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Special-school trainees in partnership with Teach First to provide School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT).

Our mission is to ensure that all of our trainees are supported and committed to creating exceptional and inspirational learning experiences and to ‘building brighter futures’ for the young people in our schools.

Primary Teaching

Primary education covers:

  • Key stage 1: 5-7 year olds; school years 1-2
  • Key stage 2: 7-11 year olds; school years 3-6

You will need to feel confident about teaching a wide range of national curriculum subjects, which include:

Core subjects: English, maths and Science.

Foundation subjects: Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, MFL, Geography, History, Music and Physical Education.

In addition, primary schools must teach Religious Education and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE).  Primary ITT courses increasingly offer a specialism in a growing range of subjects, with incentives for some, such as maths.

Secondary Teaching

Secondary education covers:

  • Key Stage 3: 11-14 year olds; school years 7-9
  •  Key Stage 4: 14-16 year olds; school years 10-11
  • Key Stage 5: 16-19 year olds; school years 12-13 (Post 16)

ITT in secondary teaching entails a specialist subject.

Core subjects: English, maths and Science.

Foundation subjects: Art and Design, Business Studies, Computing, Design and Technology, Drama, MFL, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, Psychology, Religious Education and Sociology.

In addition, secondary schools must teach; sex and relationship guidance and PSHE.
